Winnipeg police said a man was dead after being shot dead by police in an “incident involving an officer” on Friday night.
Police said in a press release that around 4:15 p.m. on Friday, a member of the Winnipeg Police Department “had an incident with an officer” with a man in the area of Salter Street and Mountain Avenue.
Police said the man was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died of his injuries.
No other details were released.
Numerous police vehicles were on the scene Friday night as officers glued a large section of Salter Street.
On social media, police said that although there were no public safety concerns, people were asked to avoid the area.
Police said Salter Street between St. Johns Avenue and College Avenue and Mountain Avenue on Powers Street are closed.
Police said the Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit has been notified and is investigating.
