A man from New York is wanted for unprovoked attacks on the subway, police said

A man from New York is wanted in connection with two unprovoked stab wounds in the subway, committed within 24 hours, authorities said on Saturday.

Donnie Ubiera, 32, of Queens, is said to have brandished a large knife and cut a 62-year-old man in the face and right arm aboard Train 7 South at around 8:40 a.m. Friday, police said.

Police said Ubiera approached the victim and was not provoked. After the cut, police said he got off the train at Queensboro Plaza station and fled on foot to Queens Plaza North.

The second unprovoked attack took place around 7:15 a.m. Saturday on the platform of North Train Line 7, police said. Ubiera is said to have pulled out a large knife, approached a 55-year-old man and stabbed him in the neck.

The killer again fled the scene in an unknown direction. Authorities found a knife at the scene.

Both victims were hospitalized at NYC Health and Hospitals / Elmhurst in stable condition. There were few details about their condition, but police said the first victim received multiple stitches.

Subway crime has plagued New York in recent months.

Since June 5, transit crime has risen by 53.6% since the beginning of the year, with 989 incidents reported compared to 644 in the same period last year, according to public police.
