A man was seriously injured in an attack in front of a pub this weekend.
The victim was glazed in the face around 1 a.m. Sunday, May 1, in front of the Prenton Park Pub on Borough Road. The police specify that the victim did not know the suspect and it was an unprovoked attack.
The suspect fled the scene and crashed into a bus stop, injuring himself. Detectives treat the attack as a hate crime because the victim believes the attack was motivated by his gender identity.

Police later arrested a 23-year-old man from Oxton on suspicion of assault under Section 18. He was detained and questioned by police.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries, but without danger to life. Detective Inspector John Holden said: “It was an extremely horrific, unprovoked attack that the police treated as a hate crime. It is utterly disgusting to think that someone can be the object of such physical violence simply because of their gender identity.
“The Merseyside police oppose the hate crimes committed against LGBT + people, and we simply will not tolerate people being targeted in this way. Although we made one arrest, our investigations continue.
“If you have been to the Tranmere area on Saturday night or in the early hours of Sunday morning, please let us know, as the information you have may be vital to our inquiries. Similarly, if you are driving on Borough Road and have a dashboard recording, please review it and contact us if you see anything.
“Whether you inform us directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers, please contact us and we can take action. I would also use this opportunity to call on every victim of hate crime in Merseyside to come out. We have a dedicated team of hate crime coordinators who will make sure that you are supported at every step as sensitively as possible. “
