A man has been arrested and charged with stealing a car at a gas station in Brampton

Peel police have arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly stole a vehicle at a gas station in Brampton last Saturday.

At around 9:30 a.m. on May 14, a driver was filling his car at a gas station in the area of Bramalea Road and Bovaird Drive when a man tried to steal their vehicle, police said.

The man was unable to pick up the vehicle, police said, as the keys were not inside at the time. He then fled the scene.

However, it is alleged that the same man returned 20 minutes later and approached a second person, telling them to get out of their vehicle and look at something from behind.

Police said that when the man went out to check, the man got into the vehicle and started walking away. The person tried to intervene, police said, but they were pushed to the ground.

The suspect subsequently fled the area with the stolen vehicle. Police said the victim was slightly injured.

In a press release issued Thursday, police said the suspect was later arrested and the vehicle was found.

The suspect, Gurmit Singh without a fixed address, is accused of stealing more than $ 5,000, robbery and wearing disguise with intent.

“Car theft is a violent and traumatic experience that deeply affects the victims,” said Nick Milinovic, Peel’s deputy police, in a statement.

“As long as our service is committed to prevention, we are also committed to holding those responsible accountable. I am very pleased that this investigation has been completed successfully. “

Just southeast of Brampton, Toronto police are responding to a series of armed car thefts this week, including one involving Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner.

On Wednesday, police said three car thefts committed within two hours were linked.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 905-453-2121 ext. 3410 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
