GARDEN City, Rich County – A 31-year-old man was found dead in Bear Lake on Monday, officials said.
According to Rich County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle was found on Monday and left in a day camp overnight. The vehicle was reported by an employee of Bear Lake State Park, who noted that the man was seen in the water with diving equipment around noon on Sunday.
Chief Deputy John Nickel arrived and began calling the listed family members of the vehicle owner and found that family or friends had not heard of the man since Saturday, officials said. At the time, Nicole contacted state park officials to help with a boat equipped with side sonar, as well as the help of the diving team of the Ministry of Public Safety to try to find the man, officials said.
Shortly after the search began, 31-year-old Kyle Dean Walker was found dead in 5 feet of water, officials said.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of death.
