At least six police units were on site shortly before 8pm on 25 Avenue on Friday
UPDATE: 8:35 p.m.
A shooting in Vernon on Friday night killed a man and police are investigating what they believe was a targeted incident.
The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of shots fired shortly before 6 p.m. on a residential building at Block 5300 on 25 Avenue in Vernon.
Frontline officers responding to the scene found a 38-year-old man with gunshot wounds.
The RCMP said the victim died of her injuries and was found dead on the spot.
The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
Police have closed 25 Boulevard and the area is secure and will remain cordoned off as officers inspect the scene and continue the investigation.
“Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest that this is a deliberate incident,” said Inspector Blake McLeod, Vernon North Okanagan’s RCMP operative in a press release.
“The victim is known to the police and we do not believe that public safety is at stake.”
Police are interested in talking to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, and are asking anyone who may have camera or video surveillance recordings in the area to contact police directly and immediately at (250) 545-7171.

Numerous police units are on site at 25 Avenue in front of Landing Plaza in Vernon on Friday night.
Castanet reporter John Manchester is on the scene and reports that a crime scene has been set up in front of Landing Meadows townhouses across the street.
Reports circulating on social media said shots were heard earlier in the evening.
Traffic is closed on Avenue 25 through the area.
