A pedophile was caught after Home Bargains employees recognized him on CCTV

A sex offender was caught after Home Bargains officers spotted him lurking in the store weeks after he sexually assaulted two children there.

Leslie Foster was jailed earlier this week for a series of vicious sexual assaults and attempted child abductions in downtown Liverpool last year. The 71-year-old forced a three-year-old to rub it on his clothes at Home Bargains in September 2021, and then minutes later tried to get an eight-year-old to leave the store with him.

Weeks earlier, he had asked a ten-year-old child at a nearby Wilko store if he would kiss him.

Liverpool’s Royal Court heard Foster, who has multiple convictions for sex crimes and spent most of his life in prison, was arrested after Home Bargains officials recognized him when he returned to the store later. . Officers recognized him for his vile actions against the eight-year-old and three-year-old and recognized him from the store’s CCTV cameras.

Prosecutor Martin Snowden said that when Foster entered the store, staff recognized him, confirmed his identity and detained him until police arrived. Foster was then arrested and eventually confessed to all the crimes.

Speaking after receiving a sentence of nine and a half years in prison, Merseyside police detective Rachel Roberts thanked store employees for their role in Foster’s detention.

DC Roberts said: “We would like to thank the victims and their parents for the courage and strength they showed during the investigation before the trial. I would also like to thank the staff at Home and Bargain, who quickly alerted the police to allow us to arrest Foster quickly so that he could be brought to justice.

“Anyone who has been the victim of a sexual crime or suspects that it happened to someone they know should go out and talk to us. We have a team of dedicated staff who will handle your reports expertly and compassionately and will do everything possible to continue to bring violators to justice.
