A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “At around 2:30 a.m. today (21/06), police were called in for the sudden death of a 40-year-old woman at a property in Standon Way, Blondstone St. Andrew.

“Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and a 70-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently in police custody.

“People living in the area will see an increased police presence throughout the day, and we want to make sure there is no risk to the general public.

“Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting diary 26 from today.”

At the time of writing, there were three forensic vans parked sporadically around Standen Way at noon, and several police cars and community support officers were spotted patrolling the area by bicycle.

A car with an officer sitting inside guarded the property, a two-story terraced house with a garden full of multicolored roses.

Reporter Daniel Wood said: “There is no movement from the police on the street and there is currently no obvious police tape or forensic activity outside the property in question.

“No one is around. If the forensic vans and the police cars weren’t there, you wouldn’t have a clue that something happened.”

A private ambulance arrived at the small dead end of the houses at 12.45 and left shortly afterwards. Forensic scientists remained on the scene while the investigation continued.

The circumstances surrounding the death of the as yet unidentified female victim are still unknown and why police believe this is inexplicable.

At 1:10 p.m., Wiltshire police confirmed that there was no update on the case and the arrested man remained in police custody.

More to come.
