Ontario police are investigating after a man fell from an overpass on Highway 417 early Thursday morning.
Paramedics in Ottawa said the man received non-life-threatening injuries in the fall shortly after midnight and was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Ontario provincial police were involved, but said they would not comment, citing an ongoing investigation by the Special Investigations Department (SIU).
The SIU, which is investigating incidents involving police in death, serious injury, firing a firearm by an employee against someone or alleging sexual assault, said in a press release later Thursday that the OPP had received a call from a man close to the edge of the overpass on Udrof Avenue.
The 61-year-old man climbed a barrier and held on as a sign after the first police officer arrived at the scene, then fell after the police officer “briefly engaged” with him, SIU reported.
Anyone with information or evidence is asked to contact the SIU Lead Researcher at 1-800-787-8529.
The western lanes of Highway 417 and part of Woodroffe were closed earlier this morning and have reopened ever since.
