Dale Mawson, 48, of Sowerby Bridge, was found dead in the water off Wharf Street on Tuesday morning.
Police treated his death as “inexplicable”.
As the courier announced earlier this week, they were called on Tuesday at 9.21am on a safety alert and were accompanied by paramedics and firefighters.

Chief Detective Sharon Kay of the West Yorkshire Homicide and Major Investigation Team said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation, but we are currently treating the death as unexplained.
“As part of our ongoing investigations, we want to talk to anyone who has any information that could help us establish the circumstances of what happened.
“In particular, anyone who may have been in the Sowerby Bridge Canal Wharf area between 1 am and 9 am on Tuesday, June 7.
Anyone with information that could help with the ongoing investigation is asked to call the homicide and large-scale investigation team through the 101LiveChat feature on the website or by calling 101, citing Diary 381 of June 7.
