A runaway dog disappears… and returns victorious with a racing rosette

A runaway dog has won a rosette in a competition after the man who found her on his way to the event entered her in the show.

Peter and Paula Clozier were left to fear the worst when Bonnie, their five-year-old crossbreed, escaped from their home in West Sussex on Sunday morning.

Mrs Clozier, 48, had called the police, vets and a dog warden in a frantic attempt to find her.

Little did they know that John Wilmer had spotted the pet on the side of the road just minutes after she ran off while taking her two dogs to a show in Felbridge, Surrey.

The family’s fears were eased when Paula spotted a Facebook post from John asking the dog’s owner to get in touch.

After hearing what the owners had said, Mr Wilmer decided to enter Bonnie in the competition for best rescue dog – and the animal came back with a third place rosette.
