A story after a man hit by a van in Brighton

A WITNESS heard someone shout “stop, stop” before a person was hit by a van this morning.

The accident happened around 11 am on Gloucester Road, Brighton, near the intersection of Tidy Street.

Sussex police closed part of the road and put up a police tape. Clothes were scattered on the floor, some with blood.

A passer-by heard shouts as the van apparently hit the Gloucester Road man.

He said, “I heard someone shout, ‘Stop, stop, stop!’

“I guess someone was knocked down, but it all happened so fast.

“People came running very fast and I didn’t want to see what happened. There were enough people there with their phones calling for help.

“I did not want to see anything terrible. There were many people caring at the scene.

Police are still at the scene

“It took the police about 20 minutes to arrive, the ambulance even more.

Traffic in the area is doing well, but people are advised to avoid the North Lane area.

Sussex police have confirmed that an 80-year-old woman is in hospital with serious injuries.
