Police in Central Saanich are searching for a possible suspect vehicle after a student was attacked by a group of masked men at Stella High School on Friday.
The student was approached by a small group wearing ski masks in the school parking lot around 11:20 a.m. and was then attacked, officials said.
The victim was hit with a hammer, and there was a knife at the scene, said a sergeant from the police in Central Saanic. Paul Brayley.
The attackers left the school and the student was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, including facial injuries that required stitches, police said.
The student is now at home with his parents and will recover, although he is probably shaken, said District Superintendent Dave Eberwein.
“This is worrying for everyone and it would be scary for the students and I am sure that some families are worried,” he told CHEK News. “But I can assure them that our process and protocols are working properly.”
The incident was immediately reported to the police, who are currently investigating and trying to identify the group. Eberwein said they may have been students from other schools or members of the community, but they are not believed to be students of Stella.
Saanic’s central police tweeted on Saturday, asking all witnesses to the attack or those who may have video from the camera to come out. They added that the suspects are believed to be linked to an older model black BMW sedan with shiny wheels.
“We believe the vehicle is probably stationary past Stelly’s between Saanich and Wallace Drive,” Braley said.

Police are also asking anyone who may have seen something about the attack on social media to come out, adding that they do not believe that the general public is at risk and that this is “probably an isolated incident between a group of people.”
Meanwhile, the school says there is additional support for Stella’s students or staff who may be affected by the incident and want to discuss it with someone.
Anyone with information about the attack was asked to contact Saanic’s central police on 250-652-4441 or provide evidence on their website.
