Los Angeles police responded to a shooting at Ulysses S. Grant High School in Valley Glen, located at 13,000 Oxnard St.
Both Los Angeles School Police and Los Angeles Police Department officials responded to the scene and believe the incident may be gang-related.
According to police, a student was shot in the leg in the area of Oxnard St. and Coldwater Canyon, in front of the school and was transported to Cedars Sinai in stable condition.
Authorities also said the shots may have come from a vehicle and that parts were looking for a green Honda Accord.
Police cordoned off the streets in the area while investigating the incident and the school was locked indefinitely.
Students were allowed to leave campus around 4:15 p.m.
In a statement, officials from the United School District of Los Angeles said the incident was still under active investigation by law enforcement and that the area would have a team of on-site counselors ready to help support students and staff.
“It’s a sad day when our children are exposed to violence in the community. As adults, we have a collective responsibility to ensure that we are buffers for our children by listening, protecting, connecting and modeling, and making sure that they continue to thrive and feel safe, ”said a statement read in part.
