The next AirPods Pro may look like the current ones … but they may sound very different.

A new leak seems to confirm that a very big update may come with the next version of Apple’s headphones, Apple AirPods Pro 2, which is expected later this year. New beta software for AirPods has just been released for developers and heralds something that sounds like a simple, updated Bluetooth codec for Apple AirPods Max, but this could have spectacular consequences, say, for future built-in ears, such as AirPods Pro.

As reported by 9to5Mac, the developer claims that the beta version will mean that an updated Bluetooth codec called LC3 can be activated for Apple AirPods Max.
Updated June 25. Another report has just appeared with new information and images on what the next AirPods Pro might look like. According to 52audio, many new features are coming, not just the sound enhancement provided below.
52Audio has received new information, according to the site, which suggests an improved H1 chip. Well, that’s in line with the predictions below, so that’s a good start.
But then it gets a lot more intriguing. It is claimed that the new chip will have self-adaptive active noise reduction. I’m not sure exactly how this would work, but he suggests that, like some in-ear headphones, it adjusts the way it removes incoming noise according to whether you’re on the go, on the street, in a room, and so on.
A new Find My feature is also planned. This coincides with rumors that the charging box will be able to make noise so that they are easier to find.
In previous reports, this led to images of the case with what looked like a speaker on the side. However, the new report says that the new charging case will have a speaker grille at the bottom, and the side area has “multiple holes” that “add on both sides of the USB-C port at the bottom and two larger holes on the right side. are protected by a decorative metal structure.
“We also find that the holes on the right side are the microphone for the hearing aid. Sound can be collected through the charging box and transmitted to headphones to improve sound and playback, helping people with hearing loss receive sound from the environment. The speaker is at the bottom, which can reproduce the sound itself and works with the Find My app to help users get the location of the charging box faster.
The hearing loss element is particularly interesting, suggesting that rumors of the next AirPods Pro working as a hearing aid may be true.
The other big change that is coming, it is claimed, is the detection of heart rate. There are reports of health upgrades coming to the headset (supported by comments from Apple’s CEO) and this will certainly meet the requirements.
Heart rate detection will use data from the inner ear to monitor heart rate and there are rumors of temperature detection, although the site is less sure if this will happen.
Oh, and the design of the new AirPods Pro will look very similar to the current model, refuting rumors of a new look without a handle.
Back to the great new codec …
Apple distributor ShrimpApplePro tweeted about the claim, citing their leak that the L3C was coming.
This will mean that the headset will have better quality voice calls to begin with. But it also suggests that AirPods Pro 2 can significantly improve the quality of music playback. The developer managed to activate LC3 (this is a communication codec with low complexity) through the beta firmware of AirPods Max.

This is great for voice calls and Bluetooth stability, but the real increase in quality will probably come with hardware that supports Bluetooth 5.2, which AirPods Max doesn’t. Which brings us to the AirPods Pro 2, the next headset expected to be released by Apple.
According to 9to5Mac, the next version of the Apple H1 chip, an audio processor that can run Bluetooth 5.2, will be in the next AirPods Pro.
Although not confirmed, the presence of LC3 references and support for low-power audio support in the iPhone iOS 16 software greatly increases the possibility that the next AirPods Pro will have something of a sacred grail for music lovers: lossless audio.
This is possible from some iPhone models, but not from existing AirPods. The prospect of lossless audio has been discussed by reliable analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo, and this new evidence reinforces the idea that it may come.
The low energy part of the equation suggests that battery life will also improve. Even if it’s not in AirPods Pro 2, it’s a great upgrade for AirPods Max. But I believe that the next generation of headphones will see this upgrade.
