BURLINGTON, Massachusetts – Police in Burlington say residents can rest easy tonight after arresting a man believed to have tried to abduct a woman returning from work Sunday night.
The police ship arrived at the Burlington Police Department shortly after 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Inside was the accused, 23-year-old Tyler Healy, handcuffed and low-headed as he boarded a cruiser after two days on the run.
“Police detectives in Burlington were able to obtain an arrest warrant in which Tyler Healy, 23, was charged with four offenses,” said Burlington Police Chief Thomas Brown.
Charges include attempted kidnapping and assault with intent to rape. Police say surveillance video shows Healy grabbing the 37-year-old victim Sunday night. He gave her a headache, kidnapping her, but she fought.
Police say it worked.
“I think the sacrifice, especially for her hard fight that night, the fight she had in the middle of Middlesex Turnpike, she gave herself a chance,” Chief Brown said.
This disturbing video led to several tips that helped catch Healy, according to the Middlesex District Attorney.
“We are very grateful to the members of the public who saw this, who contacted the police department and provided information and possible locations. And that led them to Winthrop, “said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
The other woman was 911. Boston 25 spoke to her last night.
“I did it because this woman needs my help,” said the woman, who asked not to be identified.
Tonight, Burlington police and the prosecutor say she is a hero.
“And he put himself in danger, potentially acting without due regard for her safety. And her actions were selfless, “said Chief Brown.
Healy was arrested in Winthrop on Tuesday. Police say he has ties to Burlington, but recently lived in Waltham and Newton.
Healy will spend the night in a prison cell in Burlington. He is expected to be indicted in Woburn County Court this morning.
