A Toronto man has been admitted to hospital after a motorcycle crashed into an SUV on Highway 401

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision on Highway 401 in Ajax, police said.

It happened in the western lanes of the Westney Road highway.

Ontario Police Sergeant Kerry Schmid said a 25-year-old man driving a high-speed motorcycle crashed into the back of an SUV.

The motorcyclist was taken to a life-threatening trauma center.

Schmid said drivers should expect a delay in the area for the investigation.

He reminded drivers that highways are not for racing. He said police saw a group of motorcyclists split at 254 kilometers per hour.

“So Formula One is in Monaco tomorrow. “The 401 is a highway in the GTA and we currently have high-speed motorcycles,” he said.

“This is not a racetrack. This is not the way to use our highways here, where everyone is trying to get to their destinations here safely. You know that this kind of behavior is obviously very dangerous, potentially life-threatening and deadly.
