A woman in stable condition after being hit by a car while crossing a street in Montreal

A woman was trying to cross a street in Montreal and was hit by a vehicle. She is in stable condition in the hospital.

Montreal Police (SPVM) said a 911 call around 4 a.m. forced officers to drive to the corner of rue Saint-Jacques and Boulevard Saint-Pierre in the Ville-Marie district.

Police said the 25-year-old woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a car driven by a 22-year-old man who fled the scene.

“The suspicious vehicle was quickly spotted,” said SPVM spokeswoman Caroline Chevrefils.

The woman was transported to a hospital, where she remained, and the man was detained.

He will be met by investigators later today.

The scene of the accident has been protected for analysis, and the police investigation continues.
