A woman is critically injured after being set on fire at a Toronto transit station on Friday in an attack that was considered a random attack, officials said.
The incident happened at noon at Kipling Station in Etobicoke, which is in the area of Dundas Street and Kipling Avenue.
Toronto police say ambulance crews were called to the scene at 12:23 p.m.
Const. Edward Parks told Global News that initial reports were of an attack on a bus stop.
Parks said on Friday afternoon that the updated information suggested that a man had spilled liquid on a woman and then set her on fire.

The victim was assisted by the Toronto Fire Department, Toronto Police and TTC Police. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Parks said the victim was seriously injured.
Paramedics in Toronto said they transported a 20-year-old woman to a life-threatening burn center.
Parks initially said the victim and the suspect knew each other, but later said they thought they didn’t know each other and it was an accident.
A man has been arrested.
Toronto Mayor John Torrey issued a statement condemning the attack.
“We are all praying for the woman who was attacked at Kipling Station,” he said.
“This is a shocking crime that should not happen anywhere in our city.
“I want to thank the TTC staff and passers-by for rushing to help the victim of this attack, along with TTC special police officers, police, firefighters and paramedics.
Torrey said he spoke with both TTC CEO Rick Leary and Toronto Police Chief James Rammer.
He said they both assured him that “they do not leave a stone unturned in the investigation of this issue.”

“Like all Toronto residents, we at TTC are shocked by today’s attack on Kipling Station,” he said.
“Our thoughts are with the victim of full recovery.”
Leary said he spoke with Chief Ramer and offered “full support as they investigate and work to bring the suspects to justice.”
“I know that incidents like this are worrying for our customers – and I share that concern,” he said.
“Safety is paramount to everything we do and I am committed to ensuring that TTC remains as safe as possible. We relocate hundreds of millions of customers every year without incident, but we cannot and do not take this for granted. To this end, we are always looking for ways to improve safety for both customers and employees. “

Leary said the transit agency has “numerous functions and programs”, including TTC officers who strategically patrol the system, work with Toronto police to increase their presence, two-way communication systems on platforms in certain waiting areas and cameras, and emergency services. alarms in all stations and vehicles.
“We are also actively recruiting new special police officers as we expand the size of the department and have a growing partnership with Streets to Homes to help people in crisis,” the statement said.
Leary said he was also adding more cameras to the stations and attracting more visible staff.
