Traffic is back to normal after motorists were urged to avoid the A45 following a “serious collision” in Northampton on Tuesday (July 19).
The dual carriageway was closed in both directions between Riverside and Merway.
Traffic was supported from Queen Eleonor to Billing and beyond. The National Highways Agency said there were at least two miles of queues in both directions with diversions in place after a single vehicle collision.

Emergency services were on the scene.
Northamptonshire Police tweeted earlier: “Motorists are urged to avoid the A45 at Barnes Meadow in Northampton following a serious road collision this afternoon.
“The road is closed in both directions while emergency crews attend the scene.”
A police spokesman added: “Officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit remain at the scene.
The A45 in Northampton is closed.
“The prisons have been cleared but the west will remain closed while investigations take place.”
UPDATE: National Highways tweeted just after 8pm: “The A45 is now open in both directions between the A43 and A5076 near #Northampton following an earlier serious collision. Delays are clearing well in the area. Thanks for your patience and have a safe trip.”
