Former A$AP Mob member Terrell Efron, aka A$AP Relli, has emerged as the man A$AP Rocky allegedly shot last November after Rolling Stone learned he planned to file a civil a lawsuit against his best friend from high school.
Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Meyers, was arrested in April for assault with a deadly weapon for the alleged shooting, and police have not released the victim’s name. Myers has not been charged, but is headed to court on Aug. 17 in the matter.
But before the hearing, Efron went public to accuse Myers of luring him to an undisclosed location in Central Hollywood “to discuss a disagreement between the two,” according to a statement provided to Rolling Stone by Efron’s attorneys Jamal Tucson and Brian Hurwitz announcing the lawsuit .
“Unbeknownst to Mr. Efron, A$AP Rocky wasn’t just planning a conversation and came armed with a semi-automatic handgun,” the statement read. “Upon arriving at the scene, a conversation ensued in which, without provocation, warning, or any justification, A$AP Rocky pulled out a gun and intentionally fired several shots at Mr. Efron.”
Efron, who works as a talent manager and producer along with fashion and jewelry businesses, claims that Myers suffered minor injuries to his left hand after shooting Efron, and the statement says the entire incident was caught on nearby surveillance cameras.
News of the shooting broke in April when Meyers was arrested shortly after landing at LAX following a trip with his girlfriend Rihanna to her native Barbados weeks before the couple was expecting their first child together.
The 33-year-old man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and was quickly released from jail after posting $500,000 bail (Myers has yet to speak publicly about the shooting. Myers’ attorney, Alan Jackson, did not immediately respond to a request for comment .)
Officials are tight-lipped on further details in the case, but Los Angeles police said at the time of his arrest that Myers shot the man multiple times during the argument.
In a statement provided to Rolling Stone, Ephron’s attorneys Jamal Tucson and Brian Hurwitz said their client has suffered “numerous death threats and irreparable harm to his career in the entertainment industry as a result of this incident,” adding that they expect the civil case to continued on probation.
Ephron and Mayers’ history dates back to their days at New York’s Bayard Rustin High School for the Humanities. Although Efron doesn’t rap for the group, he’s been involved since its early days, with Meyers crediting Riley with introducing him to the A$AP Mob, formed by the late A$AP Yams, as well as A$AP Bari, A$ AP Illz and A$AP Kham circa 2006
Mayers’ “Purple Swag” helped put A$AP Mob on the map when it was released in the summer of 2011. (Ephron appears in the music video, which was shot in Ephron’s apartment.)
In October, Meyers signed with Polo Grounds Music/RCA Records, saying in a press release that he wanted to sign with “the right partner that can help us get a bigger platform to bring me and my team’s music and movement by A$AP .”
Although the collective has hands in fashion, skateboarding and cycling, and other business ventures, they became known primarily for music from the success of Mayers and later A$AP Ferg.
