Agent Response: Kyler Murray, DK Metcalfe, Deebo Samuel title nine NFL stars looking for a big deal or trade

Players’ dissatisfaction with existing contracts and frustration with negotiating new contracts occur regularly every off-season. There are different ways to deal with contract dissatisfaction. Some players attend off-season training as a gesture of good faith that there will be a positive result. Others express their dissatisfaction by refusing to attend the off-season training program, organized team activities and mandatory minics.

The three-day mini camp in June is the only mandatory activity out of season. Contract players who do not attend this minishamp are subject to a $ 95,877 fine under the NFL Collective Agreement this year. That’s $ 15,980 for the first missed day, $ 31,980 for the second missed day and $ 47,936 for the third missed day.

These mandatory mini-camp penalties do not apply to unsigned restricted free agents, franchisees and players in transition. Their presence is not mandatory due to lack of a signed contract. Contract players retain services they are required to perform under contract, while unsigned players do not have such an obligation.

Twelve of the 32 NFL teams (Colts, Buchanaries, 49ers, Giants, Lions, Packers, Patriots, Raiders, Rams Seahawks, Steelers and Vikings) are holding a mini-camp this week. Seventeen teams will have a mini-camp next week. The Dolphins held their mini-camp last week. Bengals and Eagles will not have mandatory mini-lamps.

Here’s a look at the situations of nine notable players who are unhappy with their situation, who either want a new contract or an exchange. Three-time NFL defender Aaron Donald would top the list. He threatened to retire until Rams was given an unprecedented three-year, $ 95 million contract, which added $ 40 million to his existing deal without receiving new years in return on Monday. Donald becomes the first non-quarterback to break the $ 30 million barrier a year. He was also the first to reach the $ 20 million a year mark.

Murray has been pushing for a new deal since the Cardinals lost to Rams in the wild card playoffs. Eric Burkhard, Murray’s agent, released a statement in capital letters in February, essentially calling for a new contract. The cardinals did not make a proposal to Murray. Burkhard had recently withdrawn an offer he had made to the cardinals.

When the off-season training program began in mid-April, Murray did not show up. This has sparked some speculation that Murray may eventually be changed. GM Cardinals Steve Keem says there is “zero chance” Murray will be traded, he must put an end to rumors. The two-time Pro Bowler has missed most of Arizona’s organized team activities. Kame sounded optimistic about making an extension during a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee show.

Murray may be a beneficiary of cardinals who do not work on his schedule for a new contract. No one expected quarterback Deshon Watson to receive a fully guaranteed five-year, $ 230 million contract for his trade from the Browns to Texas, especially given the allegations of sexual violence and misconduct he still faces. Watson was left with four years worth $ 136 million for the four-year contract extension, an average of $ 39 million a year, which he signed in September 2020. Burkhard’s insistence on a fully guaranteed contract comparable to Watson’s will come as no surprise.

A fully guaranteed contract can be problematic due to archaic NFL funding rules and the Cardinals are not considered a money-rich team. Teams are required to deposit into the escrow account the amount of all guarantees in the contract, other than those for injuries only, including those in future contract years.

The Cardinals did not pay the one-time Murray signing bonus that Nick Boza received from the 49ers for the second general election in 2019, as $ 6,839,924 out of the $ 23,589,924 Murray signing bonus was postponed until March 1, 2020.

Mayfield, who has to play this season with a fully guaranteed option of 18.858 million dollars for the fifth year, does not want a new contract and the first general election for 2018 asked to be changed.

Mayfield seems to have become indispensable after Brown unexpectedly dropped out of the first round of 2022, 2023 and 2024, the fourth round of 2022, the third round of 2023 and the fourth round of 2024 for Watson and six for Texas. 2024 round selection in March.

The biggest hurdle in the Mayfield deal is the amount of his fifth annual salary, which Brown will have to eat to part with him. The Panthers deal during the NFL draft in late April was reportedly disbanded over the issue. According to the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers wanted the Browns to pay $ 13 million to $ 14 million, which would be converted into a pre-trade signing bonus of $ 18.858 million.

The 49ers have apologized to quarterback Jimmy Garopolo, who is likely to be replaced after he resumed throwing a soccer ball after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in March by this week’s Minicamp. Browns followed suit Wednesday, releasing Mayfield from next week’s mandatory mini-champions, confirmed CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson.

Samuel showed up for this week’s mini camp after missing all other San Francisco off-season activities. He did not participate in training.

Samuel requested an exchange earlier in the season. The reasons for his desire to leave San Francisco have never been revealed. There is speculation that Samuel does not want to continue in the double role as a broadcaster and fullback, who took over last season.

49ers general manager John Lynch turned down all other teams’ proposals for Samuel ahead of this year’s draft. Last week, Lynch said he would be a fool to trade Samuel, who won All-Pro honors last season while emerging as one of the NFL’s most dangerous offensive weapons.

Samuel led the league with 18.2 yards per catch. He caught 77 passes for 1405 yards with six touchdowns. Samuel was also a backfield threat. He introduced himself at the Pro Bowl level as a defender when the 49ers began using him in that capacity due to injuries. Samuel rushed 365 yards on 59 curries (6.2 yards per carry) and scored eight touchdowns on the ground. His 1,770 yards from the fight (combined yards for running and receiving) were third in the NFL last season.

My experience as an agent has been that money can cure most diseases with clients. If this is true for Samuel, the 49ers should be ready to lead the selected colleague from the second round of 2019, which AJ Brown signed when he was exchanged with the Eagles during the first round of the draft. The Eagles gave Brown a four-year, $ 100 million extension containing $ 57,220,471 in guarantees.
