The lunatic, who is said to have fatally shot three people in a church in Alabama, was a federal licensed arms dealer who claims he failed to keep a record of the weapons he sold, contrary to authorities, it said. in a new report.
Robert Findley Smith, 70, of Birmingham, was sitting alone at dinner at Stephen’s Episcopal Church when he suddenly pulled out a handgun that opened fire on three elderly visitors.
He was stopped only after another churchman hit him with a chair, pushed him to the ground and received the weapon.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms sent a warning letter to Smith in February 2018 following an on-site compliance investigation at his home on Sicard Hollow Road, AL.com reported, citing a joint investigation by The Trace and USA Today about how the ATF monitors arms dealers and manufacturers.
Smith, who did business as Original Magazine 2, won the warning after failing to record the sale or disposal of a firearm in seven days.

And while 86 weapons were available, an investigation from both stores found ATF records stating that Smith’s inventory showed 97 firearms and that he “failed to record the order of … [the] firearms. “
No one in the church seems to know Smith, and the motive is unclear for Thursday’s killings of Walter Rainey, 84, Sarah Yeager, 75, and Jane Pounds, 84, who died of her injuries the next day.
