“The Cystic Fibrosis Society of Canada thanks the Government of Alberta for moving quickly to make Trikafta available to children six years of age and older. This announcement will completely change the course of life for many children living with cystic fibrosis. We thank Alberta for being one of the first provinces to make Trikafta available to adult CF patients last September and to children today,” said Chris McLeod, National Chair of the Cystic Fibrosis Society of Canada.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease in which mucus builds up in the lungs, digestive tract, and other parts of the body. Symptoms of cystic fibrosis can include a persistent cough, shortness of breath, frequent chest infections, and weight loss.
“As an adult with severe progression of cystic fibrosis, I have experienced the life-changing results that Trikafta can bring, and I am so grateful that children with this devastating, progressive disease may not have to suffer the same burden that we as adults have.” Now they have a chance at a much healthier and longer life thanks to your actions. As a parent, I can feel their relief as all you want for your children is for them to reach their full potential. The access you have provided today makes this a reality for the first time for parents of children with CF,” said Amanda Bartels, Cystic Fibrosis Patient and Cystic Fibrosis Canada Volunteer Lead Advocate for Alberta.
The government also provides cover for cystic fibrosis drugs Kalydeco and Orkambi for those who meet the eligibility criteria.
