There’s only about a month left until Apple holds its annual September event focused on the new iPhone and Apple Watch models. We thought we’d throw in a quick rundown of everything that’s being talked about at Apple’s September event to give MacRumors readers a rundown of what to expect when the first fall event rolls around.
The iPhone 14 could probably be described more as the “iPhone 13S” because it is not expected to receive many changes. We expect the same design and the same chip from the A-series, but camera upgrades are possible. Note that Apple is getting rid of the 5.4-inch iPhone mini in the 2022 iPhone lineup, with the standard iPhone 14 lineup consisting of a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and a larger 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max.

- With no design changes, the Face ID notch remains.
- No ProMotion display.
- A new purple color that combines black, white, red and blue.

Although the iPhone 14 is more of an iPhone 13S, the same is not true of the iPhone 14 Pro models. Apple is planning bigger changes for its more expensive iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

- ProMotion display technology, but with a 1Hz to 120Hz upgrade that enables Always-On display technology.
- No notch. The notch has been replaced with pill-shaped cutouts and punch holes for the camera and Face ID hardware.

The Series 8 is expected to receive an iterative update that largely focuses on a few new features like temperature measurement, but there are some surprises as Apple is also introducing a professional version of the Apple Watch.
- Same general design as the 7 Series.
- Sizes 41 and 45 mm.
- An S8 chip that basically offers the same performance as the S7.
- Low power mode for longer battery life.
- A temperature sensor that can notify you if your temperature rises. It can be used to track fertility.
- Possible detection of a car accident.
The Apple Watch Series 8 isn’t the only new Apple Watch we’re getting this year. Apple is revamping the Apple Watch SE and introducing a new higher-end Apple Watch that can be called the “Apple Watch Pro”.
- An updated design that is an “evolution of the current rectangular shape”, possibly with a flat display but no flat edges.
- Strong, more durable construction for extreme athletes.
- More durable titanium alloy body with shatter-resistant display.
- Larger size with a 2-inch screen diagonal that provides seven percent more display area.
- 410 x 502 resolution.
- Bigger battery and longer battery life can last several days with the new low power mode.
- All features of Apple Watch Series 8.
- It can be priced around $900 to $1000.
An updated version of the AirPods Pro is on the horizon, but it’s not entirely clear whether the updated headphones will come out alongside the new iPhone and Apple Watch models, or whether Apple will introduce them later in the year.
- Same general design as current AirPods Pro with silicone ear tips and handle.
- Improved Find My integration.
- Charging case with speaker holes to reproduce sounds when lost.
- AirPods 3 acoustics for enhanced sound.
- Updated H1 chip with self-adaptive noise reduction capabilities.
- Lossless Audio (ALAC) support possible.
- Lightning port.

Possible event date in September
There’s still no word on when Apple will hold its annual September event, but given that events almost always happen in the first two or three weeks of the month, we can make some educated guesses. September 5th is Labor Day, so this is sold out and most events are on Monday or Tuesday, although Wednesday is sometimes possible.

- September 7
- September 13
- September 14
- September 20
- September 21
September 12 and 13 are the two most likely dates, and if Apple really plans to hold the event on one of those days, we might get an announcement a week earlier.

Event in October
Apple’s September event isn’t the only event we’ll have before the end of the year. We’re also counting on an event in October that will see the launch of new iPad Pro models, a new low-cost iPad, a revamped Apple TV, and Apple’s silicon version of the Mac Pro.
