It’s a little early, but this Amazon Prime Day deal deserves a mention; Apple TV 4K just hit its lowest price ever. There’s certainly no shortage of 4K media streaming devices to choose from, and it can be confusing for someone to figure out which one is the best. Well, let’s be clear right away that Apple TV stands at the top as one of the best, if not the best media streamers out there, doubly so if you already own an iPhone or iPad.
$70 off the latest Apple TV 4K
There’s only one downside to the Apple TV compared to its competitors, and that’s the price. The current Apple TV 4K is normally priced at $179.99 for the 32GB model and $199.99 for the 64GB model. I’m not saying the price isn’t justified, but it’s a premium price when other streaming devices can cost under $50. Fortunately, today’s deal makes that less of an issue. Amazon is offering a flat $70 off both the 32GB and 64GB models. That’s a significant 39% discount on the 32GB model, but even better, it’s the lowest price we’ve ever seen for the new Apple TV. That’s significantly cheaper than what we saw on Black Friday, and will likely be the lowest price until next Black Friday.
Apple TV 4K 2021
Why is Apple TV such a great media streaming device? For starters, it supports a huge range of apps. This includes video apps like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Paramount+, and of course original movies and TV shows on Apple TV, as well as music apps like Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, and TIDAL. Apple TV also gives you access to Apple Arcade games that you wouldn’t normally be able to play on a non-Apple device.
The Apple TV hardware is also top shelf. It is powered by the Apple A12 Bionic CPU which is capable of handling 4K HDR video coupled with Dolby Atmos audio without any issues. You’re not limited by storage space either; even the smaller 32GB model puts other media streamers to shame. For example, the Amazon Fire TV (any model) only includes 8GB of storage, the Roku doesn’t include internal storage, and the NVIDIA Shield Pro comes closest at 16GB.
The current-gen model also has a new and improved Siri remote that beats the black remote of the previous generation by leaps and bounds. Not only is the build quality better, but there are several quality-of-life improvements, such as a 5-way clickpad, a mute button, and a dedicated power button that works for your TV, receiver, and Apple TV. These may sound like small upgrades, but they make a huge difference in comfort and usability.
Finally, Apple TV is easy to set up, especially if you already own an Apple device like an iPhone or iPad. Even better, you won’t need any extra setup to mirror Apple TV content to your iPhone or iPad, or vice versa. You’ll be able to share videos, movies, music, images and browser content using Apple’s proprietary AirPlay wireless connection. And since the iPhone is the most popular phone on the market right now, it’s safe to say that quite a few people will find this functionality extremely practical.
