Two men, one in his 80s, face serious charges following riots in the North Bay on Thursday night.
The Harbor Grace RCMP responded to a home in the community around 8:30 p.m.
Police said officers spoke to residents to calm the situation. It turns out that there is an unfulfilled order for 80-year-old Sylvester Woodfine Sr.
When police informed him that he had been arrested, he was upset and allegedly attacked the officer with a number of items in the home.
Woodfine’s son, Sylvester Woodfine Jr., 47, was also upset and tried to intervene by threatening and attacking another police officer.
Both men were taken out of the house and detained without further incident.
The older Woodfine is facing charges of assaulting a police officer with a weapon and resisting arrest and has been released to appear in court at a later date.
The younger man is also accused of assaulting a police officer, obstructing and threatening. He was remanded in custody to appear in court on Monday.
