An RNC employee accused of assaulting a partner pleaded not guilty

(Corner Brook Provincial Court.)

An RNC employee accused of assaulting her partner pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Noel Laite, 33, was charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault with bodily harm and strangulation of the applicant.

The incidents allegedly took place in Pasadena between September 2020 and January this year, while Laite was out of work.

The charges were the first to be brought by the province’s Serious Incident Response Team, or SIRT-NL, whose mandate includes investigating cases involving police officers.

Laite has been with the RNC since 2016 and remains at work, but has been given administrative duties pending the outcome of the case.

The trial is set for the end of October in Corner Brook.

The Crown operates by a summary sentence, which is a less serious form of prosecution than an indictment.
