Actress Ann Hatch was in hospital on Saturday after an accident in which her car crashed into a house and burst into flames, a spokesman said.
“Anne is currently in a stable condition. Her family and friends ask for your thoughts and prayers and to respect her privacy at this difficult time,” Heather Duffy Boylston, Hatch’s friend and podcast partner, said in a statement.
Heche’s car was speeding at a T-intersection and ran off the road and into the house in the Mar Vista neighborhood of West Los Angeles just before 11 a.m. Friday, Los Angeles Police Officer Tony Im said.
The car came to rest inside the two-story house and started a fire that took nearly 60 firefighters more than an hour to extinguish, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
Television news video showed a blue Mini Cooper Clubman, badly damaged and burned, being towed from the home, with a woman on a stretcher struggling as firefighters loaded her into an ambulance.
No other injuries were reported and no arrests were made. Police detectives are investigating.
A native of Ohio, Hatch first rose to fame on the NBC soap opera Another world from 1987 to 1991. She won a Daytime Emmy Award for the role.
In the late 1990s, she became one of the hottest actors in Hollywood, a fixture on magazine covers and in big-budget films. She co-starred with Johnny Depp in 1997 Donnie Brasco; with Tommy Lee Jones in 1997 Volcano; with Harrison Ford in 1998 Six days, seven nights; with Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix in 1998 Return to Paradiseand with an ensemble in the original 1997 I know what you did last summer.
Her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres from 1997 to 2000 increased her fame and caused enormous public scrutiny.
In the fall of 2000, shortly after the two broke up, Heche was hospitalized after knocking on a stranger’s door in a rural area near Fresno, California. Authorities said she appeared shaken and disoriented and was speaking incoherently to residents.
In a memoir published the following year, Call me crazyHeche spoke about his lifelong struggles with mental health and an abusive childhood.
She was married to cameraman Coleman Laffoon from 2001 to 2009. They had a son together. She has another son in a relationship with actor James Tupper, her co-star in the TV series Men in the trees.
Over the past two decades, Heche has worked alternately in smaller films, on Broadway and in television shows. She recently had a recurring role on the network series Chicago Police and Everyone gets upand in 2020 he was a contestant on Dancing with the stars.
