Apple’s AirTag now has a louder warning sound

One of the key anti-harassment features Apple announced in February has finally made its way to AirTag.

As first reported by MacRumors, a recent AirTag update tunes its built-in speaker to deliver the loudest sound to make it easier to find.

It is also worth noting that the feature is gradually being introduced to consumers, with only 1% of AirTag owners receiving it this week, 10% on May 3, 25% on May 9 and all users on May 13, according to MacRumors. The new firmware compilation number is 1A303 (firmware version 1.0.301).

To check what firmware your AirTag works with, go to the Find My app on iPhone, tap the Items tab, and select your AirTag from the list. The serial number and firmware of the Bluetooth tracker must be visible.

As early as February, Apple announced a set of features aimed at restricting the use of AirTag around car theft and other tracking-related crimes, including “Precise Finding,” which directs iPhone users to unknown relatives of AirTag. The company also released a notice stating that using AirTag to track people is a crime in several regions of the world.
