PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – The Attorney General of Arizona has assessed the law of the country when it comes to abortion in the state of the Grand Canyon. Attorney General Mark Burnovic tweeted that the law, passed more than 120 years ago, said the ban on abortion was “in force” and would not be lifted when SB 1164 was due to take effect in about three months. The state legislature passed SB 1164 in March and it was signed by Gov. Doug Ducey and would ban abortions in 15 weeks unless the mother’s health is at stake.
Bernovich said he would ask a judge to drop the injection, which was introduced after the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. When the US Supreme Court overturned Rowe v. Wade on Friday, he allowed states to decide on abortion laws. Senate Republicans initially said there was a territorial law that forbade abortion unless the mother’s life was in danger. According to ARS 13-3603, anyone who has an abortion, unless it is to save the mother’s life, can receive two to five years in prison.
