TAMPA, FL. – EXCLUSIVE: The first public look at the confession Brian Landry left in a notebook in Florida, where he committed suicide last year, reveals his last words.
“I ended her life,” reads the note the FBI pulled from Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park on October 20, 2021. “I thought it was gratifying that she wanted this, but now I see all the mistakes I panicked . I was shocked. “
Laundrie wrote that he killed Petito after claiming she was injured when she fell in Wyoming. He also wrote, “From the moment I decided, I took away her pain, I knew I couldn’t go on without her.”
Lawyers representing the Petito-Schmidt and Landry families met at the FBI’s field office in Tampa on Friday. Fox News Digital obtained copies of the notes scratched by Laundrie before taking his own life.

Patrick Riley, a lawyer representing Petito’s family, told Fox News Digital in front of the FBI building that he could not comment on Friday. The family’s aide, Richard Stafford, will not respond immediately.
“Please do not make life difficult for my family,” the notebook reads. “They lost a son and a daughter. The most beautiful girl in the world. Gabby, I’m sorry. “
Earlier in the note, he wrote: “I am sorry for my family. This is a shock for them too [as] terrible grapple (sic). “

“Today, the Petito family’s attorney, Patrick Riley, and I met with the FBI in Tampa to sort out and seize personal belongings that belonged to Gabby and Brian,” Laudry family attorney Steve Bertolino told Fox News Digital Friday. “As part of this return of property in FBI custody, I received Brian’s notebook and I turned [the] same for Chris and Roberta Laudry. “

The FBI revealed in January that investigators had found Brian Landry’s confession in a notebook that had been under water for about five weeks.
Gabby Petito is believed to have been killed around August 28. A search led by the FBI found her remains in the Bridger-Titan National Forest on September 19. Investigators described her death as a manual strangulation and blunt force trauma to her head and neck.

Brian Landry returned home to his parents in North Port, Florida, on Sept. 1, police said, citing a reader’s record of the license plates of her van traveling in the city. According to the FBI, he also sent fake text messages from Petito’s phone in an attempt to cover up the crime and stole her debit card.
The laundromats went camping on a beach in Fort De Soto Park, south of St. Petersburg, and did not say publicly about Petito’s disappearance.
Finally, on September 11, Petito’s mother, Nicole Schmid, reported her missing to police in her hometown of Long Island, New York. They contacted the North Port police, who knocked on the door of the washing machine, where they met in silence.

On September 13, Brian Laudry escaped into the swamp, despite hidden surveillance cameras set up around his house. This was the last time he was seen alive.
His father later voluntarily handed over the weapons to the FBI family and said one might have disappeared. Investigators found a revolver near the skeletal remains of Brian Laudry in the swamp.
There was also a bottle of water nearby, which probably belonged to Petito and other items belonging to the couple.

Bertolino said he shared the content of the note “as a matter of transparency”.
“I will not comment further, as there are still pending court proceedings,” he said.
