Neighbors shared the latest photo of its cast and crew after the final scene of the long-running Australian soap opera.
The show’s executive producer has revealed tears shed on the last day of filming, but believes his 37-year cycle is an “incredible achievement” to be celebrated.
The world-renowned soap opera was first aired in 1985 and traces the lives of people living and working in the fictional suburb of Melbourne Erinsboro.
Executive producer Jason Herbison said: “We all knew that day was coming, but until we were here when the last scene was filmed, it was hard to express how we would all feel.
“Of course it’s sad and tears were shed, but we are also extremely proud. Thirty-seven years is an incredible achievement and it should be celebrated.
“We were also incredibly moved by the response from our viewers around the world.
“Neighbors are more than a TV show for many people. They see us as part of the family and we feel privileged to be invited to their homes and I know that the legacy of the Neighbors will live on for many years to come. ”
Stephen Dennis, who played the villain Paul Robinson throughout the show’s history, described the last day of filming as a “melancholy day” in an interview with Australia’s Studio 10 breakfast program on Friday.
The actor said that he “surprised himself” by becoming incredibly emotional during the filming of the last scenes, admitting that he had to keep a “very low profile” in order not to become an “absolute mess”.
He also revealed that Diana, the Princess of Wales and the Queen Mother were big fans of Neighbors and would specifically ask for BBC recordings to make up for the episodes missed during the royal engagements.
The final episode, due to air on August 1, will see fans’ favorites over the years return to the stalemate of Ramsay Street to say goodbye to the soap.
It was previously announced that Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who starred as a strong couple Charlene Mitchell and Scott Robinson in the 1980s, were returning to the show.
Memento star Guy Pierce, who began his career with Mike Young in the Australian soap opera, also confirmed that he will reprise his role after sharing photos of himself reuniting with the cast and crew in recent days.
They will be joined by Peter O’Brien, who appeared in the first episode of the show as Shane Ramsey, as well as Ian Smith, who plays Harold Bishop, Mark Little, who plays Joe Mangel, and Paul Keane, who plays Des Clark.
Among the returnees from the 2000s are Chris Milligan, who plays Kyle Cunningham, Morgan Baker as Callum Rebecca, Natalie Basingthwaite as Izzy Hoyland, and James Mason as Chris Papas.
Pippa Black, who played El Robinson, and her screen brother Jordan Patrick Smith, who played Andrew Robinson, will also return.
