Ava White shouted “They stabbed me” at a friend after an attack in the city center

Ava White shouted “I’m stabbed” at her terrified friend before she collapsed on a street in downtown Liverpool, the court heard.

Ava died after being stabbed by a 14-year-old boy at School Lane in downtown Liverpool. Boy A takes responsibility for her fatal trauma, but says he acted in self-defense. The teenager from South Liverpool, whose name cannot be named for legal reasons, denies murder and manslaughter.

This morning, the Liverpool Royal Courts heard evidence from Boy J, who was one of many children who were with Ava in the hours before his death, on what happened on November 25, 2021. Jurors had previously heard that friends were in town and drank vodka and mingled near St John’s Mall.

After being removed by security, they had moved to Williamson Square before Ava got angry after seeing another group of boys who seemed to be photographing them. The boy, Jay, told police he and Ava knew they drank vodka, but described himself as “drunk” and not drunk when the argument began.

He said he went to talk to two other friends, a little out of the way, so he did not witness it, but told police he was later told he was over the videos. Boy J set off with Ava and her other friends away from Williamson Square and across Church Street.

The court heard that at that moment he and another friend pulled away slightly and he was still around the corner from Church Lane as Ava was stabbed at the nearby School Lane. Speaking during a police interview that was being played for jurors this morning, he said, “I heard Ava say, ‘They stabbed me, stabbed me.’ I just heard it as I was about to turn the corner, so I turned around [Girl D] he grabbed her and she ran towards me. ”

Boy J said he saw boy A running away with other children chasing him, and it wasn’t until he approached Ava that he saw her injuries. He said: “Then they brought Ava, everyone could see her, because [Girl D] he grabbed her and she just coughed up blood and then went back.

Boy J said that he and girl D tried to help Ava while she was lying on the floor, and called for help from people who were walking nearby. He said, “I and [Girl D] we were shouting for someone to help us because there were still a lot of people on the street and then someone came running and he called the ambulance. “
