President Biden aimed at 9mm pistols on Monday, which seems to suggest that “high-caliber weapons” should be banned.

The president made remarks to the White House after returning from a visit to a Texas mass shooting site where 21 people, including 19 elementary school children, were killed last week.

Speaking about a visit to a trauma hospital in New York, Biden said doctors had shown him X-rays of gunshot wounds.

“They said a 0.22 caliber bullet would hit the lungs and we could probably get it out – we could get it out and save a life. “A 9mm bullet blows the lungs out of the body,” Biden said.

“So the idea of these high-caliber weapons is, uh, there’s just no rational basis for that in terms of self-defense, hunting,” Biden added. “Remember, the constitution has never been absolute.”

“You couldn’t buy a gun when the Second Amendment was passed,” Biden said. “You couldn’t go out and buy a lot of weapons.

However, the president ruled out the possibility of issuing an executive order for weapons, saying: “I can not dictate these things.”

Biden’s comments were in line with his firm stance on weapons during the 2020 presidential campaign. Speaking at a Seattle fundraising event in November 2019, Biden said he supported the second amendment, but called the absolutist arguments on arms rights “strange”.

“Why should we allow people to have military-style weapons, including pistols with 9-millimeter bullets and can withstand 10 rounds or more,” he said.
