Birmingham blast: Man sustains life-threatening injuries after gas blast destroys house

the man received life-threatening injuries in a gas explosion that destroyed a house in Birmingham and severely damaged at least three others.

Photographs of the aftermath show a house completely carved out of the blast at 8:38 p.m. on Dulwich Road in Kingstend.

Another four men received minor injuries.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said people at the scene had rescued a man from the destroyed house, but he had “very serious injuries” and was taken to hospital.

Residents said shortly after the blast, they passed burning debris, dust and rubble and pulled a wounded man alive from the rubble of the house.

A man who declined to say his name said: “Everyone was watching, the house was on fire, no one was entering, so we could see the entrance – so we entered the house, me and a dozen others.

“There was a man in the back (of the house), we heard the man screaming, but he was pressed against the refrigerator in the kitchen.

The incident is believed to have been caused by a gas explosion, the West Midlands Fire Department said.

A Cadent Gas spokesman said her staff was on site.

“Our teams are on the scene of the Kingstend incident, supporting the response of many agencies, such as the West Midlands Gas Emergency Service,” they said.

“It is too early to speculate on the cause. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

“If someone smells gas, nearby or somewhere, it’s important to act immediately and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.”

West Midlands police tweeted: “Thank you for all your kind words. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this.

“Emergency workers from all services and energy companies work really hard in very difficult circumstances.

“Thanks to the people who helped shocked and injured neighbors.”

An ambulance spokesman tweeted: “We are currently dealing with a significant accident on Dulwich Road in the Kingstend area of ​​Birmingham.
