Lord Hague, the former leader of the Conservative Party, said he believed Boris Johnson was in “very serious trouble” and predicted a no-confidence vote would take place by the end of June.
Speaking to Times Radio, he said: “I think Boris Johnson is in real trouble. When such a respected, so experienced, respected MP as Bob Neal expressed this opinion, it is a very serious problem for the Prime Minister, and I think that Sue Gray’s report is one of those slow explosions of wicks in politics.
“It is still going on. Many people have misread it, last week’s events, which means the problems are over, Boris is free. This is not really the mood in the Conservative Party, which is very, very concerned about the content of this report.
“So I think the Conservative Party will have to resolve this one way or another, obviously because to be an effective party, they either have to unite behind the prime minister they have, or they have to decide to push him out.
“I think they are moving towards next week or the end of June, they are moving towards a vote, it seems.
