Boris Johnson hints to leave human rights convention over Rwanda dispute News

Boris Johnson has opened the door to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights to facilitate the removal of illegal migrants from the United Kingdom.

The prime minister said the option was being considered amid disappointment with lawyers who were helping to withdraw dozens of people from the first flight taking migrants to Rwanda, due to leave at 9.30pm tonight.

Uncertainty remains as to whether the plane will take off, although the Supreme Court has rejected a recent attempt by campaign participants to block flights, with judges backing the Court of Appeals’ ruling yesterday that it could continue.

However, the individual legal challenges of each of those who need to be on board can still effectively justify it.
