Boris Johnson is planning a July wedding party with Carrie in Checkers | Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson has planned a July wedding celebration with wife Carrie at his prime ministerial home, multiple sources said.

Johnson, who resigned on Thursday, and his wife sent out save-the-date invitations to guests for a party at Checkers, the prime minister’s gracious home in Buckinghamshire, at the end of the month.

The pair married last year in a small ceremony with 30 guests due to Covid restrictions, but Johnson’s spokesperson said at the time that they planned to celebrate again in the summer of 2022. This is the third marriage for Johnson, who has two children with Carrie.

The ceremony last year at Westminster Cathedral was prepared in secret and guests celebrated in the Downing Street garden, with only one official photo released.

Plans for the Chequers wedding, first reported by Bloomberg, are likely to come under renewed scrutiny now that Johnson has said he will resign as Conservative leader and leave Downing Street when a new candidate is chosen.

His critics in the party – including former prime minister John Major – have called on him to step down immediately and let his deputy Dominic Raab serve as caretaker prime minister because of his party’s lack of confidence in him.

Carrie Johnson watched her husband’s resignation speech at Downing Street, carrying their daughter Romy in a sling. Their young son, Wilf, was waiting in entrance hall No. 10.
