Number 10 has admitted Boris Johnson was briefed on a Whitehall investigation into Chris Pincher before appointing him as his deputy chief whip.
Downing Street said on Friday last week that the Prime Minister was not aware of “any specific allegations” about Pincher, who faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
However, Lord Macdonald of Salford, the former Foreign Office boss, said this morning that Number 10 was not telling the truth.

He said the Foreign Office and Cabinet had launched an investigation into allegations of Mr Pincher’s conduct in 2019 and found against him.
Pincher had accepted the findings. Macdonald also revealed that a senior official briefed the prime minister at the time.
