Providing an update on Saturday, July 2, a Dorset Police spokesman said a 31-year-old man from Bournemouth had been arrested on suspicion of assault and remained in custody.
Detective Inspector Neil Third, from Dorset Police, said: “Our investigation is well advanced and is now being carried out by the Major Crime Investigation Team.
“Although an arrest has been made, I would like to renew our appeal for any witnesses to the incident who have not yet spoken to police to come forward.
“We now know that a man and a woman with a young child were in the area at the time and I would very much like to speak to them as they may have important information to assist us.”
The police spokesman said there would still be an increased police presence in the area and anyone with concerns should contact officers from their local policing team.
