Boston Police warn of increased alcohol and cover-up drug use in early summer

Boston police issued a warning Monday, noting “numerous social media posts” from various people claiming to have been victims of drinking at local bars over Remembrance Day weekend.

The Boston Police Department issued a statement reminding the public of the “danger of odorless, colorless and tasteless drugs” such as Rohypnol, also known as Rohypnol, or other drugs such as GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) or Ketamine, “placed in the drinks of unsuspecting victims. ”

“These drugs and substances can cause disorientation, confusion, temporary paralysis or unconsciousness, along with many other symptoms, leaving a potential victim vulnerable to the suspect’s intentions,” the department said, urging anyone who believes it was a victim to call. 911 or report the incident in person to any Boston Police Department.

The police department urged people gathering in social settings to use the friendship system, keep in mind that drinks are served directly by a bartender or waiter, and watch drinks at all times, including bringing them to the toilet if necessary. The warning said to use your hand or other objects to cover drinks and test drinks with test strips or nail polish that illuminate a certain color if drugs are found.

People are urged to seek help immediately if they start to feel dizzy, nauseous, dizzy or strange in any way. Police said, “Be aware of any unusual behavior from your acquaintances and beware of strangers who try to lure people away from their friends.”

The department said they would contact the police when they observed any person who appeared to be in distress, wandering alone late at night or dressed inappropriately for the weather.

Boston Police also noted the November 2021 Boston Licensing Board’s advice on safety concerns for owners of nightclubs and other licensed establishments.

The council states that it is the responsibility of business to ensure that it is safe for patrons and free of illegal activity. He also says licensees must call 911 or otherwise notify police “to report suspicious or predatory behavior and when a problematic or highly intoxicated patron is expelled.”
