Brancaster: A speedboat sinks off the coast of Norfolk

A man had to swim ashore after his 16-foot speedboat began sinking off the coast of Norfolk.

Wells RNLI coastal lifeboats and all weather conditions were launched at 6:40 this morning [May 16] after receiving a distress signal from a man whose boat was sinking off the coast near Brancaster Golf Club.

But fears were even higher when his conversation was interrupted in the middle of the conversation.

At 7 am, the Coast Guard received another call from the captain, who managed to swim 100 meters to shore.

He called them on the emergency phone outside the golf club and told them he was safe, but his motorboat had sunk.

The coastal lifeboat was on site at 7:10 a.m. and met with the beach captain.

The man was wet and cold, and after confirming the location of the sunken boat, the crew took him to the ledge at Brancaster State.

The crew of the lifeboat for all weather conditions was informed of the position of the sunken motor boat and marked its location with the help of a life jacket attached to a mooring rope that floated on the surface.

The stern of the motorboat was on the seabed, but the internal buoyancy in the hull meant that the bow simply floated below the surface of the water.

The speedboat posed a danger to shipping, so it was decided that the crew would pull it ashore.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Chris Hardy said: “The entire crew acted with great speed and diligence when they heard there was a man in the water.

“Fortunately, the emergency phone at Brancaster Golf Club meant that the captain could quickly call the Coast Guard to say he was safe.

“This prevented unnecessary searching and a sense of relief that everything was fine.

“I am very proud of both crews of lifeboats, as they demonstrated excellent skills and maritime skills today, that’s what we’re training for.”
