Professional comedian Axel Blake, winner of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, said ITV’s finale was a “fix” after it turned out to have an Amazon Prime show.
The 33-year-old joker insisted on “self-financing” his stand-up show, Axel Blake: I’m Not Gonna Lie, and said he would be touring the UK handing out tickets.
This comes after the controversy over his broadcast on the streaming show resurfaced, as did the fact that he posed for well-known channels such as SBTV and UNILAD.
Speaking: Comedian Axel Blake, winner of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, said ITV’s finale was a “fix” after it was revealed he had an Amazon Prime show.
In response to criticism, Axel revealed that he slept in his car during the stand-up show and insisted that he was not paid for the show because he set a record.
He explained: “My standup routine was filmed and released on Amazon. I self-funded the stand-up show, no one paid me, and there was never an agreement with Amazon when I slept in my car and drove around the UK to hand out tickets because I didn’t have a ticket operator.
“I would literally ask people who want tickets, and then I would drive to them as an Uber ticket service.
“There were times when I would drive for hours and hours to go meet someone with tickets for my show, and then he would never show up.”
The stand-up comedian said his family was “concerned” about him at the time and said he “took food from the family table” just to fund his dream.
“I lived, I breathed, I cried about this stand-up show,” he added.
“Everything came out of my own pocket – I took food from the family table so I could continue this stand-up concert, which was fully funded and managed by me. I sorted and paid for lighting, staging, whatever, it was me.
Axel said it was only a year later that his friend said he could help him get the show on Amazon, but said he had not been paid for the opportunity.
He said: “A year later, a friend approached me and said they could help me upload it to Amazon. I didn’t get a fee, but I decided to do it because it could help me get more exposure.
Borby: In response to criticism, Axel revealed that he slept in his car during the stand-up show and insisted that he was not paid for the show because he set a record
“The deal lasted only a year, so you can’t even find it if you look now. Now, as a budding comedian, would you say no?
“After sitting in my car, I slept and cried in my car, driving around the UK as an Uber ticket driver, and then Amazon turned to you after you and your family sit down to discuss if this dream is financially viable, asking when it will draw a line, would you say no to that?
“I have never hidden my past and I have always been open to the previous work I did. I’m just a person who tries to give his best, tries to strive for more.
His comments came after Axel won the final of Britain’s Got Talent, which drew an average of 6.4 million viewers, with a peak of 6.94 million views during the slot from 21:45 to 22:00.
