A British man has been found dead in a hotel room in Florence, Italy, along with a woman who suffered serious injuries.
The 40-year-old was found at the four-star Hotel Continentale near the Ponte Vecchio bridge on Saturday morning after staff alerted the police.
He reportedly arrived in the city, the capital of the Tuscany region, on Friday evening with the 43-year-old woman, who was found in the same room as him. She is believed to be his partner and is being treated at the city’s Careggi hospital.
Local police and forensics teams were seen carrying out inquiries at the hotel on Saturday.
Hotel officials were unable to provide additional information about the incident when contacted by PA Media.
A spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Department (FCDO) said: “We are in contact with the Italian police following the death of a British man in Florence.”
