The final round of the final major golf season of 2022 is officially upon us and it looks like an incredible finish to the historic 150th Open Championship awaits. With Rory McIlroy and Victor Hovland leading the way and plenty of chase including Cameron Smith, Cameron Young, Scotty Scheffler and Dustin Johnson, Sunday’s final 18 holes on the Old Course at St Andrews could lead to an all-time finish.
McIlroy and Hovland will be the final pair on Sunday after providing drama in the penultimate match of Saturday’s round. The two shot matching 6-under 66s to move to 16 under, making them four shots out of the field as the co-leaders. McIlroy is aiming to win a second Claret Jug – and his first major since 2014 – as he tries to hold off a future first major winner at Hovland alongside a handful of tough rivals, all within six shots of the top.
With a star-studded field at the top of the rankings, St Andrews serving as a historic backdrop and the tension given it’s the last major of the year, the 150th Open is already one to remember.
