British President Boris Johnson has resigned but will remain prime minister until a successor is found

LONDON—Boris Johnson said Thursday he would step down as British prime minister after a wide-ranging revolt in his party, ending a stunning fall from grace for a politician who once looked set to dominate UK politics for years.

The move ends an extraordinary 36 hours in British politics, in which more than 50 ministers and senior government aides resigned, leaving the British government in a state of paralysis. Mr Johnson said he would appoint a new cabinet while remaining in office until a successor is found, a process that could take several months.
