Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshon Watson will soon file another civil lawsuit against him.
Tony Busby, the attorney representing all the women who tried Watson, told Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com that the 24th civil lawsuit will be filed against the quarterback on Monday by another masseur who claims it was sexually unlawful behavior during at his previous meetings.
The news comes three days after the 23rd woman, Nia Smith, filed a civil lawsuit against Watson in Texas for sexual misconduct.
According to ESPN’s Jake Trotter, Smith changed his decision to file a lawsuit against the quarterback after Ashley Solis and Kayla Hayes joined HBO’s Real sports with Bryant Gumbel and condemned Browns for signing a five-year contract with a guaranteed record $ 230 million from the NFL.
Both Solis and Hayes filed lawsuits against Watson for sexual abuse.
Watson’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin, later said in a statement that the quarterback was “fiercely denying” Smith’s allegations.
Two major jurors in Texas refused to press charges against Watson in March on nine of the 10 criminal complaints of sexual assault or misconduct, and the 10th complaint was not presented by prosecutors to the grand jury.
About a week later, the Houston Texans exchanged it for Brown.
The NFL is still in the process of completing its investigation into the allegations, and Watson may be suspended under the league’s personal conduct policy.
“I think we’re nearing the end of the investigation,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said late last month. “Then this will be taken over by our disciplinary officer.
There is no schedule for announcing the league’s findings.
If he is available, Watson will be Brown’s starting quarterback when the team opens the 2022 regular season against the Carolina Panthers on September 11.
If Watson is removed, Cleveland could turn to Baker Mayfield, provided the franchise doesn’t trade it this summer or Mayfield doesn’t hold out after asking to be distributed. The team also signed Jacoby Brisset in a free agency this offseason.
Watson has not played an NFL game since the 2020 season after requesting an exchange from the Texans and is absent for the entire 2021 campaign amid allegations.
