Calgary police are looking for suspects in a “hate-motivated” attack on a vulnerable citizen

Calgary police are seeking public help in identifying people believed to be responsible for a “hate-motivated attack” in the city center nearly a month ago.

The attack took place in block 600 of Center Street South at around 11 pm on Tuesday, March 29.

Police said the victim suffered injuries to his ribs and face after being thrown to the ground and kicked several times.

“It is currently believed that this is an unprovoked attack on a vulnerable Calgary,” a press release said Tuesday.

“We continue to investigate and ask the public for help to identify two suspects believed to be in their early twenties.

At the time of the attack, police said a suspect was wearing a black Crooks and Castle long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and white Nike high-top sneakers.

The second suspect was wearing a gold or light brown sweatshirt with a Levi’s hood, black jacket, black jeans and white sneakers.

“We are investigating this brutal attack as a hate crime because we believe the victim was targeted because of his socio-economic situation,” said Staff Sergeant Jeff McQueen in a press release.

“Violence against vulnerable members of our city will not be tolerated.

Anyone who can identify the suspects or who may have information about the attack is asked to contact the police by calling 403-266-1234 or sending advice anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
