Calgary police investigate ‘soulless’ attack on homeless victim as hate crime

Calgary police are looking for two suspects in what they call a “hate-motivated”, unprovoked attack on a homeless man.

The attack took place near the Bow Tower in downtown Calgary on March 29.

At around 11 pm, a security guard found the victim after he was thrown to the ground and kicked by two men in what police described as an unprovoked attack.

The victim was injured and needed medical attention after being kicked in the ribs and face.

Both suspects are believed to be in their early 20s.

At the time of the attack, one was wearing a black Crooks and Castle shirt with long sleeves and white Nike high-top sneakers. The second was wearing a brown Levi’s hooded sweatshirt, black jacket, black jeans and white sneakers.

“Violence against vulnerable members of our city will not be tolerated,” said a staff sergeant. Jeff McQueen.

“We are investigating this brutal attack as a hate crime because we believe the victim was targeted because of his socio-economic situation.
